At a Caribbean summit, Raul Castro formally recognizes Muhammed Ali’s life & contributions, especially to Black America and world peace, followed by widespread applause by the other delegates. CBS 60 Minutes on June 5 also focused on Ali’s visits to Cuba.

Stevenson turned down a $5 million offer to defect & turn “professional” (asking “What is one million dollars compared to the love of eight million Cubans?”) The promoter wanted him to fight Ali. Ali & Stevenson’s friendship transcended different social & sports systems. Though they never met in the ring, they were united by their commitment to mutual respect & peace.
