Two of Cuba’s four COVID-19 vaccine candidates started their final trial stage in March. Soberana 02 is being tested on 44,000 volunteers in Cuba and thousands more in Iran and Venezuela. Two further vaccines — including one administered via a nasal spray — are at an earlier stage of testing.
If successful, Cuba intends to vaccinate its entire population before the end of the year and may also offer vaccines to tourists as well as producing vaccines for other interested nations.
