Dear ACERE Alliance members and U.S.-Cuba policy advocates:
We want to share BIG and EXCITING news: ACERE worked with Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), Rep. Cohen (TN-9), and Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-4) to draft and circulate a House of Representatives sign-on letter to Biden calling for normalization with Cuba. We ask you to thank Rep. Moore and, if you are out of her district, to ask your representative to sign also!
This is a HUGE opportunity to build momentum and put pressure on the Biden Administration towards ending the embargo under this administration. The turnout on this letter will show President Biden and Congress the strength of the Cuba policy advocacy and solidarity community — so we need as many members to sign as possible.
This is a very tight turnaround. We need everyone to do all the outreach they can do before next Friday, February 12.
WE can do this!
If you already have contact with your member of Congress and have had success gaining their support for Cuba related efforts, then keep doing what has worked for you. If you are new to congressional advocacy or need direction, check out this detailed step-by-step guide on how we recommend engaging with Congressional staff and members of Congress for maximum impact.
Once you have contacted your member of Congress and/or their staff, please send us any information on their response. We are collecting all congressional outreach ‘intel’ and tracking which members are signing or need more outreach into this form. Please, fill it out and hit submit, or email us directly, if you prefer.
This urgent call-to-action for ACERE alliance members and all U.S.-Cuba policy advocates is in true organizers’ timing with our first ACERE Alliance meeting and collective “teach-in” session this Saturday from 2:00 – 3:30 PM CST. We look forward to sharing more information then and hearing report backs from all of you.
Please be sure to register in advance for this meeting here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. If you have not already done so, please be sure to share your brief written introduction here.
More good news!
ACERE has signed on our support for this organizational sign-on letter drafted by WOLA and LAWG that will be sent to President Biden regarding bold actions that must be taken on Cuba policy. Read the full letter here. We strongly encourage all our Alliance member organizations and others in our vast networks to sign-on by Tuesday, February 9 at 12pm EST. It is an organizational sign-on letter only (not individuals). We are trying to get a broad range of organizations including faith, Cuban American, human rights, business, etc. Please add your organization via this sign-on form.
Thanks in advance for your action.
Until soon,
ACERE Steering Committee
